Job Description
The organization has committed to changing how it works with data and is funding the shift, so you set the standard that the teams adopt. You will lead multiple data engineering teams across several countries, and the data products you shape are built to generate measurable commercial value, not just internal cost savings.
Role overview
You take over one domain-level cluster of data products and own it end-to-end: design, scaling, operationalization, and evolution. You work as a technical co-leader alongside the business domain owners, turning their priorities into data products with measurable outcomes. You report to executive leadership, with a functional line to the global data leader, so your work has visibility at the highest level of the data organization. Hands-on coding is not expected here. Your job is to set the technical direction, define the rules that make data products reusable and shareable across the domain, and lead the teams that deliver them.
This role fits you if you have led a data mesh in production at a real scale and want the mandate to define the standard rather than inherit one.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end lifecycle of a domain’s data products: design, development, operationalization, evolution, and retirement.
- Define the technical and design standards for how data products are built, so they are scalable, reusable, and shareable across teams and domains.
- Lead the shift from data warehousing to a data mesh operating model inside your domain, and set the pattern the wider organization can reuse.
- Set the standards for ingestion, pipelines, transformations, and API based data access, and hold the teams to them.
- Guarantee operational reliability against agreed service levels (SLOs), with proper monitoring and observability.
- Lead and grow multiple data engineering teams across several countries, moving from functional to direct leadership over time.
- Partner with business domain owners as their technical co-leader, translating priorities into a prioritized, outcome-driven roadmap.
- Manage technical debt and design evolution, balancing delivery speed with long-term maintainability.
- Own governance, compliance, and ROI for your delivery segment, and communicate decisions, risks, and dependencies clearly to senior and international stakeholders.
- Build a product and ownership culture across the teams, with accountability and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Experience leading data mesh in production (domain oriented data products, not data lakes or central databases). This is the core requirement.
- Proven track record building and operating scalable data products on modern cloud data platforms.
- Direct data engineering background: ingestion, pipelines, transformations, API based data access.
- Real operational experience: running data products against SLOs, with reliability, quality, monitoring, and observability.
- Ability to operate at an architect level, setting technical and design direction without being hands-on day to day.
- Previous leadership experience in data engineering or data product teams, with experience scaling from functional to direct leadership.
- Strong stakeholder management, able to align business priorities with technical delivery as a credible co-leader to domain owners.
- Demonstrated ability to drive standardization and reuse: getting teams to stop building one-off solutions and adopt shared, scalable products.
- Senior management seniority, comfortable owning governance, compliance, and ROI for a delivery segment.
Required Education
- A university degree in IT or a related field is an advantage. A proven track record at this level matters more than formal education.
Required Language
- English - C1

Employee Benefits
- A competitive base salary + variable component and an annual bonus on top of base. Total compensation for senior profiles is set individually, not boxed into a rigid band.
- A genuinely senior mandate: you own a domain’s data products and lead multiple teams, and you define the standard rather than inherit one.
- Data products built to generate real commercial value, so your work drives measurable business outcomes, not just internal cost savings.
- The backing of an organization that has decided to change how it works with data and is funding the shift, on real, funded engagements rather than a proof of concept.
- Broad international scope across multiple countries, with reach that grows as the data products scale.
- A real path into senior international roles within the organization as the segment grows.
- Hybrid working with the option to meet part of your team on-site. Remote work is possible from Slovakia (tax residency requirement).
- The stability of an established international organization behind a modern, product-oriented data transformation, working directly with expert engineering teams.
