A group of insurance companies across Central and Eastern Europe is building an in-house technology function around its self-built core insurance platform: one shared codebase running the business in seven countries and counting, developed until now entirely by an external delivery partner that is, by most accounts, genuinely good at the job.
Job Description

We are seeking a technical solution architect to hold that partnership to a real technical standard and start shaping where the platform goes next, from a single core system today toward a broader, modular insurance platform tomorrow. It is a from-scratch mandate backed by a large, stable international group: startup ownership without the survival risk. If you have spent years writing the code and are ready to start deciding how it gets written, this is that step.

Role overview

You will be a founding member of a technical governance team sitting above the vendor relationship: reviewing solution proposals before they go into development, leading technical governance meetings that bring together around twenty stakeholders across countries, and representing the technical side in monthly and quarterly steering committees. Each country and the vendor hold their own budget and their own final say, which makes this closer to leading architecture across sovereign, semi-independent organizations than to running a single team. The platform itself is a serious system to learn: a single, database-heavy monolith with a meaningful share of its business logic running a dozen layers deep in stored procedures.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the technical direction and integrity of a core insurance platform used across multiple countries in the group.
  • Review and challenge the delivery partner’s solution proposals, architecture decisions and effort estimates before they go into development.
  • Lead recurring technical governance meetings with IT representatives from each country plus the delivery partner, turning discussion into agreed direction.
  • Define and maintain the architecture principles, technical standards and documentation that guide day-to-day platform development.
  • Support developers and analysts across the organization with complex technical questions, without owning day-to-day coding yourself.
  • Prepare technical input and materials for monthly operational and quarterly strategic steering committee meetings with senior stakeholders, including Heads of IT and CIOs.
  • Balance pragmatic short-term fixes against the platform’s longer-term technical roadmap, including planned infrastructure and database lifecycle upgrades.
  • Consolidate and standardize overlapping technical requirements coming from different countries before they reach the delivery partner.
  • Build and prioritize a technical backlog for the platform together with business and demand-management colleagues.
  • Contribute to extending the platform beyond its current core scope, as the group moves from a single system toward a broader, modular insurance platform.
Requirements
  • Hands-on software development experience in the .NET / C# ecosystem
  • Working knowledge across backend development, MSSQL and database performance, REST API design, cloud infrastructure fundamentals (Azure), DevOps and CI/CD, and application security. Broad enough to challenge a vendor’s technical proposal, not necessarily the deepest expert in every one of these areas.
  • Experience managing or governing an external technology vendor or delivery partner: reviewing proposals, negotiating scope, holding a quality bar. Leading an internal development team alone is not the same experience.
  • Comfortable operating without direct authority: able to influence, negotiate and build consensus across multiple stakeholders rather than dictate a decision and expect it to be followed.
  • Track record of communicating technical topics to senior non-technical stakeholders, including Head of IT or CIO-level audiences, and shifting comfortably between technical depth and an executive summary.
  • A pragmatic bias toward incremental, cost-effective improvement of an existing complex system over large-scale rewrites for their own sake.
  • Background in a regulated, complex environment such as banking, insurance or telco is strongly preferred, ideally covering individual or group insurance business rather than purely corporate or reinsurance lines.
  • Looking for a permanent, full-time role with long-term ownership of a platform, not a project-based or freelance engagement.
Required Education
  • Relevant experience preferred over a formal degree. A background in computer science, software engineering or a related field is a plus, not a requirement.
Required Language
  • English - C1

Employee Benefits
  • Unique experience of building a completely new team in Bratislava for a leading insurance provider in CEE
  • Real technical ownership and influence over a platform’s direction, backed by a delivery partner that is genuinely capable, without the scale of politics or hours typical of a large bank’s architecture function.
  • A realistic path to grow into a broader enterprise-architecture scope as the platform expands from a single core system into a wider, modular insurance ecosystem.
  • Direct, regular exposure to Head of IT and CIO-level stakeholders across multiple countries, plus occasional international travel.
  • Backing from a large, financially stable international group, so the startup-style ownership comes without startup-style survival risk.
  • A hybrid setup with one fixed day per week in a newly built Bratislava office, the rest flexible.
  • Full freedom to choose your own equipment. Laptop, phone, whatever helps you work best, with no restriction to a single approved vendor or device list.
  • A permanent, full-time employment contract under Slovak law, not a project or freelance arrangement.
